A beautiful sky after a hard day's work.
This picture was taken in the playground of the preschool.
For my community service I am working at Lakeside Presbyterian Preschool. This preschool is located near the mall on Eucalyptus. I am working here with one of my friends Eliana and we are having lots of fun. I chose to work here because I love little kids and this is where I went to preschool so it's fun to go back and give back to the place where I had lots of my childhood memories. Eliana and I go to work at Lakeside almost every Tuesday after school until 5:30. We play with the kids while they are at extended care. We've done many things with them like coloring, playing kickball, and digging for "treasure". For our service we are supposed to go at least 8 times, but I hope to do more because I love to play with these little kids. It makes me happy to be with them because right now they don't have anything to stress out about. They do nothing but smile and play all day. I think community service is important to our faith because it teaches us to do things for other people and it helps us to follow the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. By doing community service we are learning how to not be selfish because that's how Jesus lived. He lived to just help people and give to them. And we are taught to live like Jesus. We have to give back to people and not think of ourselves all the time. Also with community service I think it teaches us to be happy to work for other people and help them out. Community service leads us on the way to living like Jesus.
My Faith
Honestly I don't remember the first time I became a Catholic. I've always believed there was a God and Christ and Heaven. My parents are both Catholic and so I always went to mass and also Iearned about Jesus in school so there was never really a defining moment where I realized that I was Catholic. I've just always known that I was Catholic. I can remember the first time I realized that being Catholic is very important. I was probably 8 and I was in the second grade. That means I was preparing for my First Eucharist. I don't remember the exact moment I realized that my faith was important so I can't describe the experience but I do know I realized that these beliefs will be with me for the rest of my life and I should live up to them and believe in them with all my heart. So that brings me to today. Now I'm in the seventh grade and I'm about to get confirmed. In just a few months I'll be a full member of the church. This moment I think I've been waiting for for my whole life or at least as long as I've known about confirmation. It's weird to think about because I've always thought about it happening and now it's so close. I'm ready though and I think God is also ready for me too. I've been maintaining my relationship with God by always praying to him and even talking to him. When I have no one to talk to I talk to him and I always know that he can help me with my problems. I can talk to him when I'm sad, happy, or lonely because I know he's always there and he always will be. Now let me show you two of my favorite scripture passages from the Old Testament and New Testament: OLD TESTAMENT- Genesis 1:1-3 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light." This is one of my favorite passages because it shows us how powerful God is and how big of miracles he can make. It also shows how much he cares because he created a world for us, animals, and all other living things.
NEW TESTAMENT- Matthew 9:27-31 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region. This is another one of my favorites because it showed how miraculous Jesus was and what he did to help the people that believed in him.
