I believe that the importance of having a sponsor for Confirmation is so that we can share this religious journey with someone we care about. It's important that there is someone to witness you receiving this sacrament where you become a full member of god's family and the Catholic Church. For my Confirmation I chose Mary Healy to be my sponsor. I've known Mary since I was about six months old. After I was born, my grandmother, Catherine Ring, was supposed to babysit me while my parents were working. Unfortunately, she passed away when I was just two months old. My other grandmother started to babysit me for a few months but she was still working and she lived in LA so she had to leave. My parents were in great need for a babysitter and had to get one quick. Mary offered to help and that was how it all started. Because of this, I have met so many more people in my life that care about me, like her oldest daughter, Neav. Let's just say that I've known Neav forever and that we're as close as twin sisters. Anyway, with Mary's few words of offering to take care of me, it was the start of six more years and a lifelong friendship between all of us. She's a very important person in my life and without her I'd be a very different person today. I believe that Mary will be able to support me in my faith because she has also gone through confirmation at this school and knows what it's like, she cares about me very much, and has and will support me in everything I do in my life. I don't really see her a lot through the year, but I do give her and Neav updates about my life and I think she's very happy to finally be a part of one of these events. I can't wait for the day when my Confirmation comes and I can celebrate it with her and the rest of my family.
